Jet.com, a Hoboken-based e-commerce website now owned by Walmart Is going head-to-head with Amazon. In September, the company started offering delivery, within three hours, of select grocery and other items to New York City customers.
Jet is also relaunching its website, giving it a more local feel with offerings from identifiably New York brands. Craft beers will also become available over the next few months. The relaunch follows a deal made this spring with Apple to carry its products, as well as a new one with Nike bringing footwear, apparel, and accessories to the site. Jet is pitching all of the new features as a more local and personalized version of online shopping than what is offered by rival Amazon. Amazon operates online grocer Amazon Fresh, which offers one-hour home delivery in New York of online orders from Whole Foods, including from their craft beer selection.
Executives at Jet.com believe this is where retail is going, and that this is just their beginning. They plan to eventually extend the localized approach to other big cities and feel it can be a game changer. To learn more, visit here.
