More and more we are seeing inadvertent issues crop up as a result of everyday computer use. This applies to home as well as business machines. Although Apple machines are not as likely to be affected, it is just as important to be careful regardless of your operating system.
So what can you do:
- Do not click on links in emails from untrusted or unknown sources
- Do not respond or forward emails from untrusted or unknown sources
- Be careful in responding to known sources if the content of the email is odd, suspicious, or unsolicited
- Do not provide personal information in email – banks or other financial institutions will not ask you for this information in email form
- If you are unsure about the content of an email call your IT support company or try to call the source to confirm its validity
- When browsing the web, use Google or other search engines to find websites rather than typing the name in the browser – many suspect sites are uncovered because they spell it close to a real site hoping you type it in wrong
- Read all acceptance notes on websites carefully as some sign you up for email lists or download unwanted toolbars which slow down the operation of your computer
These are just a few pointers to keep your computers equipment safe. For more information, please contact our office.
