Apple’s Let Loose Event
Apple hosted a virtual Let Loose event earlier this month which included several exciting announcements, like the launch of a new M4 chipset.
Apple unveiled the all-new M4 chipset debuting inside the new iPad Pro. The chip is built on a second-generation three-nanometer process, which essentially means both power efficiency and speed are enhanced. CPU performance will be delivered up to 50 percent faster than the M2 in the previous iPad Pro, and like the M3, the chip will include features like ray tracing, mesh shading, and dynamic caching. Apple will likely implement the chip in the next-generation Macs as well.
The latest iPad Pro is available in 13-inch or the standard 11-inch size; these iPad’s are the thinnest Apple products ever. For the first time, OLED panels are being employed instead of mini-LED; Apple says the new display technology is called Tandem OLED and is comprised of two OLED layers fused together. This will result in a brighter screen, called Ultra Retina XDR. The models are also fairly lightweight, include options between standard or nano-textured glass, in addition to a 12-megapixel camera, lidar scanner, and a new adaptive True Tone flash all on the back side.
In other iPad news, the sixth-generation iPad Air now comes in two sizes. The design unveiled in 2020 has mostly stayed the same, but the selfie camera placement has been moved to the center of the iPad on the Air in landscape orientation. Other updates include the the M1 chip upgrading to an M2 chip and double the amount of starting storage is available.
Other notable announcements from the event include the Apple Pencil going Pro and a new Magic Keyboard case. To learn more details about all, visit here.
