Microsoft released the first real version of Outlook for mobile devices this week, including iPads, iPhones and their Android variants. Microsoft has had iOS and Android version of Outlook available for some time, yet many would say it only looked like an app and lacked the performance and functionality of a true app.
Now, Outlook is a real mobile app, based on the code of email start-up Accompli, recently acquired by Microsoft this past December. Though it is unclear yet how much Accompli’s product has been changed for this launch, it is more than clear Microsoft has picked up the pace of their usual speed. The mobile app is already available for a free download and Microsoft is aiming to get users, like business customers, to upgrade to the subscription service Office 365.
The arrival of Outlook for mobile devices may decrease the amount of users relying on a traditional computer to run Windows. This may not be the best thing for Microsoft, but either way users will be using Office. We’re already downloading our new app version – are you?
