In honor of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, KnowBe4 has created an entire resource kit to help you and your users defend against cybercrime. The guide includes interactive training modules, video modules, security hints and tips, and much more.
One area of focus includes the dangers of AI art and deepfakes. AI Art is generated using billions of images and examples of art; when you enter a prompt the generator builds an image by combining many examples into a single image. Deepfake technology is similar, but manipulates real photographs and videos of people and places. Cybercriminals have learned to use both technologies maliciously. Scammers can use deepfakes to impersonate celebrities or other public figures, making it seem like a product is being endorsed, tricking people into purchasing a fake product, or luring people into visiting fake websites or clicking on fake news articles. AI is commonly used in romance scams, where fake photographs are used in dating profiles to try to steal money or information, or photos of tragedies are posted on fake websites to coerce people into donating money to fake charities.
To stay safe and protect yourself against scams like these, it is important to keep a close eye out for anything that seems unusual in a picture, like a hand with more than five fingers or strange shadows in an image. It is also worth your time to stop and think before clicking or taking action. Lastly, you can verify the claim in a different location, checking for an official website or other official sources.
