Scary Fast
Apple’s surprise October “Scary Fast” event included some exciting product announcements, and nothing too spooky.
The “scary fast” part of the event are the new M3 chips. The M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max were announced, all of which will be included in the new 24-inch iMac and MacBook Pros. The new chips are benchmarked against their M1 predecessor, with claims the M3 renders at 2.5x the speed and with a CPU 30% faster than the M1. The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros come with the new line of M3 chips, in addition to upgraded internals and a long lasting battery up to 22 hours. The options range in price, plus there is a new color available – Space Black. The 24-inch iMac comes in several color options, with the M3 chip, as well as an upgraded screen, camera, and six-speaker system. The new line of MacBook Pros does however mark the end of the Touch Bar.
The showcase event was shot entirely on an iPhone, which was sneakily mentioned at the very end of the event. To learn more about the event, or to watch the stream, visit here.
Humane’s Ai Pin
The latest in wearable tech comes in the form of a pin you clip to your chest, better known as the Ai Pin, by Humane.
The small, square, pin is a high-tech device designed to be worn on your shirt and built around ChapGPT-like AI services. It can take photos, send texts, and use a laser to project a visual interface onto a person’s palm, in addition to coming with a powerful virtual assistant. The device is ready to search the web and communicate, with the hopes of decreasing our dependency on smartphones. Ai Pin is the first of many similar wearable devices expected to launch in coming months and years, though it might be too early to tell if this type of device will become a socially acceptable personal tech item to wear versus being a fun toy for gadget enthusiasts.
While the pin is already on sale in the US, the devices are not expected to start shipping until early 2024. They start at $699, plus $24 monthly for unlimited calling, texting, and data through T-Mobile. To learn more about the wearable pin and if it can really be a smartphone alternative, visit here.
Platform Release 650
Teramind’s latest platform release, Release 650, is the biggest of the year with 450+ new features, improvements, and bug fixes.
First, a new Geo chart widget has been added to let you plot geolocation coordinates on a map. This can help visualize employee whereabouts and can be added to any custom BI reports. There is also a new version of BI reports that includes instant messages, network monitoring and camera usage reports which were previously only available under Monitoring reports. These will help conduct thorough analysis and flexible reporting with filters, widgets, charts and more. There is a new Keystrokes Content Sharing Rule, where you can compare keyboard inputs against sensitive information. The rule will detect data exfiltration attempts or implement etiquette rules in applications or documents in real-time. Another rule is the new Windows Log Event Activity Rule, which will help detect events for application activities, system changes, security incidents, and hardware triggers among others. This will allow an administrator to identify issues with the computer or discover security gaps and stop potential threats.
These are just a few of the exciting new and updated features in the latest release. There are also Daily snapshots, License alerts, and support for Active Directory integration and for multiple domains or servers. Visit here to learn more about these, and about many other improvements in the Release 650.
